Subway tile, Paris-style

Once you have been to Paris, you see things a little differently.  Take the subway.  The Paris subway system is about as old as New York’s, but it has a style that is unique and unforgettable.  Cavernous subway platforms with vaulted ceilings, exquisite decorative elements in Art Nouveau, and elegantly faceted surfaces of beveled ceramic tiles.

We hope you will enjoy our 'salut' to the tilework of the Paris Metro.

À bientô!

Rien ne se peut comparer a' Paris

"Nothing can compare to Paris" wrote Eustache Deschamps, a renown French poet, in 1370.

Six centuries later, these words still hold true. With regard to subway tile, we believe the Metropolitain subway system of Paris is in a category of its own. So we have created a complete collection of reproduction subway tile in the inimitable style of the Paris Metro as an extension of our Subway Ceramics collection of historically-authentic heritage tilework.

Paris Metro style

What characteristics make the tile of the Paris Metro unique? Consider these special qualities that we have introduced in our Metropolitan Tile collection and be transported back to the right bank.

Bevel field

The most distinguishing feature of the Paris Metro system, the bevel field tiles impart a unique sense of grandeur to each station.

Metro moldings

The Metro moldings group of cap, liner and base components reflect the same bevel edge features that combine with the bevel field to evoke a style that is sleek and sophisticated.

Bing designs

These distinctive tiles are reproductions of original stencil designs from the exterior of Samuel Bing’s 1895 ‘Maison de l'Art Nouveau’, the famous gallery in Paris that gave a name to this art movement and influenced its spread throughout Europe and the world.

Metro Concorde blue

This bold, royal blue accent glaze is found throughout the original Paris Metro system, most notably in the Metro Concorde station where tiles create a wall of words that recite the French revolution's ‘Declaration of the Rights of Man’.

AlphaNuMetro tiles

Words can inspire, and our AlphaNuMetro character tiles are available to express them in a bold and enduring way.

Art Nouveau decorative tiles

Our tribute to the Paris Metro includes a collection of Art Nouveau-inspired decorative accents, borders and liners in Concorde blue. "An international movement and style of art, Art Nouveau is characterized by organic, especially floral and other plant-inspired motifs, as well as highly-stylized, flowing curvilinear forms". Memento tiles

Scenes of landmark Paris monuments produced as decorative accents can be used as unmistakable reference points for the time and place of your tile design..
